June 1969 - August 1969 : Fairport are out of action, during this period, after a road crash, in which Martin Lamble and Richard Thompson's then girlfriend (Jeannie Franklyn) died. The time was spent rehearsing at an old Queen Anne house in Farley Chamberlayne near Winchester. Dave Swarbrick joins Fairport in July 1969 and Dave Mattacks in August 1969

Everything is now set, the players are in place, this is the Fairport line-up that would record, according to the BBC's Top 50 all time greatest folk albums, the Number 1, the greatest folk-rock album of them all, Liege and Lief, and I personally won't argue with that statement.I can safely say that it is my favourite album, of all time.Thirty-three years later, it still sounds as good as it did, on the day of release.
